Dr.-Ing Yaw Poku-Gyamfi

Dr.-Ing Yaw Poku-Gyamfi has a PhD in Geodesy from the Federal Armed Forces University in Munich, Germany. He had his MPhil and BSc in Geodetic Engineering from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi and a BSc. Physics in the same university.

He had two Post-graduate Training programmes under Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) at the Geographical survey Institute – Tsukuba and Hokkaido University/Obihiro Training Centre. He has been with the CSIR-BRRI since 1991 and currently the head of the Survey Section.

He was a Research Associate at the Institute of Geodesy and Navigation of the Federal Armed Forces University for over six years where he developed the Corridor Correction Concept for Precise GNSS Positioning. He is a Licensed Surveyor and a Member of the Ghana Institution of Surveyors.

He is the Team Leader for the SBAS - Africa West Africa component in collaboration with Avanti Communication Ltd, sponsored by the UK Space Agency.

He is a member of the Group of Technical Experts for the Continental African Geodetic Reference Frame (AFREF). He is also responsible for the Ghana’s component of the GNSS Upgrades In Tide Gauges of Africa; a member of the team of Experts on the German Space Agency’s TanDEM X Satellite Validation roject; He is responsible for the establishment of the Ghana’ Deodetic Reference Network (GRN). A member of the Team of Experts responsible for provision of Nationwide GPS-based Geodetic Network of Nigeria.

He is a member of the Committee responsible for the establishment of the CSIR College of Science and Technology (CCST) and a Lecturer at the University of Eastern Finland / CSIR FORIG Graduate School. He also serves as an External Examiner for the Geomatic Engineering Department of KNUST. And part of many other projects.

He has to his credit several Journal and Conference papers. His research interest is in GNSS Precise Positioning, Near Equatorial Orbits, Geographic Information Systems.
